2726. Hon. Minter Jackson-116
Minter and Mary Katherine began married life in Glenville, Gilmer County, West Virginia in 1850 and were making their home with his father-in-law, Abraham Fell. Minter's first child was born in 1851 in Glenville, Gilmer County. Mary Katherine died in 1856. Minter and his children were found in the 1860 Gilmer County census on pg 18, #272-259 and it says he is a farmer.
From Jackson Ledger: Minter attended a country school at Jane Lew and two terms at Old Rector College in Pruntytown in Taylor Co. He began merchandising for a living and succeeded. Minter and his family resided in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia.
He married a second time in 1864 in Town House, Smythe Co, VA, and the children from this union were born in Smyth County, Virginia.
History of The Bank of Marion Copied from http://www.bankofmarionva.com/history.htm
"Minter Jackson, a local businessman, saw a need in the community for a bank. Not just any bank but a bank to serve and support the community. Mr. Jackson was founder and served as the first president of The Bank of Marion."Chartered in February 1874, the Board of Directors held their first meeting on March 17, 1874, and The Bank of Marion opened its doors for business on April 12,1874. The Bank of Marion's first home was "the old Jackson Building" which was located on the comer of Main and Park Streets in Marion next to the Smyth County Courthouse. At that time The Bank of Marion was the only bank between Abingdon and Wytheville, as well as the only one in Smyth, Tazewell and Grayson counties."
A biography of Minter Jackson was published in "Men of Mark in Virginia" in 1908. A copy of that bio is on this site in the Biography Section. Minter's Will, written in Smyth County and recorded in Gilmer County is also on this site. See Table of Contents.

The Jackson Ledger gives a birth date of 28 Aug 1830, but other versions of the same Ledger have crossed that out and corrected it with 2 Nov 1829 and a note by the correction that she died at "26 years 4 months 12 days". This calculates to a birthday of Oct 20, 1929. Contributor of this info has also seen the Fell records and believes the correct date is 2 Nov 1929.
Isabella Holt 'Bell' Beattie-155
ALT date of death given by Larry Hakel 21 Oct 1890.
A descendant of Minter has papers showing Mary Louisa's name both as Davidson and Davisson. I have used Davisson because that's the way she signed her name on some of the papers.
Mary Louisa Davisson married first to Irving Bailey, son of Minter Bailey, Jr. and Sallie (Sarah) Bastable. He died in March 1870 and Mary is found as a new widow with 2 sons, Robert M. and Irvin G. on the 1870 Census for Weston, Lewis Co, WV.
She is also found on the 1880 Census, Weston, Lewis Co, WV with only her son Robert, her other son having died in Oct. 1870.
Her son Robert Bailey (d/o/d unknown) if living, would have been about 31 years old when Mary Louisa married Minter Jackson in 1894. Mary married her first husband's cousin when she married Minter Jackson, as Minter's mother, Hannah Bailey, and Irving's father, Minter Bailey Jr., were siblings, children of Minter Bailey Sr. and Nancy Norris.
2727. Isaac Theoderic Jackson-117
Ruth Arlene Fikan Gross Edwards adds that he married his cousin and that her name was Stotts.
Hepzibah (Storts) (Stoetts) Steorts-327
From Bill White, Jane Lew: ALT birthdate: 26 Jan 1825 but her est birth date per 1880 census is 1827.
Ruth Arlene Fikan Gross Edwards adds that she married her cousin and that her last name was Stotts.
2728. Nancy Jackson-118
From Patricia Prickett Hickin: "After her husband’s death Nancy moved with the younger children to Carbondale, Illinois, where public school facilities for the children were far superior to those in Blue Sulphur Springs. By the late 1870s, she had moved to Marion, Smyth Co., VA, where her brother Minter Jackson (1824-1907) lived with his second wife, Isabella Holt Beatie (1830-1880). Nancy died in Marion, VA, five years after her husband, on 15 Sep 1879."
William Benjamin Franklin Prickett M.D.-119
From Patricia Prickett Hickin: "William Benjamin Franklin Prickett was the son of Job Prickett and Mary Ann Price and the great-grandson of Captain Jacob Prickett/Prickit, one of the earliest settlers in the county and a founder of Prickett’s Fort, which he and others built on his land in 1774 at the beginning of Lord Dunmore’s War. In the early 1850s his older brother James Monroe Prickett moved his family to Illinois about 1855ff, together with parents Job and Mary Ann, brothers, sisters and their families to Carbondale, Jackson Co, Illinois, which was booming as a result of the completion of a railroad from Cairo to Chicago. Despite differing political views and the Civil War WBF and James and their families remained close.
"By ca 1856 WBFP had moved his young family from Marion County to Roane Co, (W)VA. A Confederate sympathizer, after war broke out between North and South, he moved his family to pro-Confederate Greenbrier County, (W)VA, and lived there for the remainder of his life."

5198. Lelia Catherine Prickett-206
From Patricia Prickett Hickin: "In the early 1870s, she attended college in Weston, Lewis County, WV; became an artist and teacher, never married and probably lived and died in Illinois. (Her grandmother Hannah Bailey Jackson’s brother - the urbane and hospitable Minter Bailey Jr. [1799-1866, m. Sarah Bastable] had owned and operated the Bailey House in Weston-it was probably the most renowned hotel in that part of the state before the Civil War). Lelia [“Kate”] was probably living in Illinois at the time of her death, which is unknown. She died some time after ca 1900, the exact year and even decade are unknown. She must have had a somewhat stern disposition because her nephews and nieces did not especially enjoy her visits, whereas they adored her fun-loving younger sister “Aunt Nellie.” [SOURCES: Alexandria, VA, Gazette, PPH Recollections of stories told by MJ Prickett, Jr. and siblings; Roy Bird Cook, "History of the Old Bailey House" Weston, 1930; "Lewis Co Historical Souvenir Book", pp 22-23.
