1842. Jane Jackson-18032

1850 Census Cates, Gwinnett Co., Georgia
enumerated 24 Aug 1850
William W. Kicker 21 M W School Teacher GA
Jane Kicker 20 F W GA
James N. Kicker 6/12 M W GA
[I've seen an ancestry chart that interpreted the handwriting as Kicker, but it is indexed as Kecket. It is equally difficult to read in the following 1860 census. I will use Kicker, but more research is needed to verify the last name.)
(in the hh above this family, are Jane's parents, Little Berry Jackson & Nata)

Jane Jackson
1860 Census Dist 406, Gwinnett Co., Georgia
N. F. Kicker 38 M farmer 200 GA
Jane Kicker 28 F GA
James Kicker 11 M GA
Mary Kicker 7 F GA
Sarah Kicker 6 F GA
Nancy Kicker 3 F GA
Rebecca Kicker 1 F GA

Later Note from Grady Langley: "I have seen this info regarding daughter Jane. She married Warren Whitefield Kicker. In the Meyers Collection, she is shown as Jane and her husband Whitfield. Whitefield had his last name changed from Kicker to Bartow, which is his mother's maiden name. Also according to Meyers, Jane is buried near Norcross, Gwinnett Co, GA".

Janie: This fellow was really unhappy with his name: on the 1850 he was William W. Kicker (indexed as Kecket); in 1860 he was N. F. Kicker. I surely misinterpreted the census records. I figured Mr. Kicker had died, Jane remarried to a Bartow and he also died. Thanks for clearing this up.
In the following census record, it appears that the children are being raised as Bartow. The gender and race columns are blank except for Albert.
This record is on the same census sheet as her father, Little Berry Jackson.
1870 Census Pickneyville, Gwinnett Co., Georgia
Bartow, Jane 27 -- -- keeping house 660 230 GA (age is obvious error; she wouldn't have had Mary at age 10.)
Bartow, Mary 17 -- -- GA
Bartow, Sarah 15 -- -- at school GA
Bartow, Nancy 13 -- -- GA
Bartow, Albert 7 M -- GA

Warren Whitefield Kicker-Bartow-19023

SEE COMMENTS ON HIS NAME CHANGE IN HIS WIFE'S NOTES.

Email from Tina Near:
"Warren W. Bartow dies sometime in 1865 or 1866. A Fulton Co., Georgia researcher found information in the Georgia Intestate Records stating that Warren had died without a will. Jane's father, Little Berry Jackson, applied and was granted "Letters of Administration" for Warren's estate on November 4, 1867."

3785. Sarah Kicker-Bartow-19026

In the 1870 Census Pickneyville, Gwinnett Co., Georgia Jane Jackson Kicker's husband has legally changed his name to Bartow, his mother's maiden name as per Grady Langley.

3786. Nancy Kicker-Bartow-19027

In the 1870 Census Pickneyville, Gwinnett Co., Georgia Jane Jackson Kicker's husband has legally changed his name to Bartow, his mother's maiden name as per Grady Langley.
In the 1880 Census Lick Skillet, Cherokee Co., Georgia, Nancy, single, is living with her sister Mary A. and her husband Goodwin Burgess.

3788. Albert Bartow-19030

In the 1870 Census Pickneyville, Gwinnett Co., Georgia Jane Jackson Kicker's husband has legally changed his name to Bartow, his mother's maiden name as per Grady Langley.

1843. Edward Thomas Jackson-18028

According to this 1850 census Edward would have been born abt 1838; but Bob Mitchell's research has a date of 5 Feb 1835 in Gwinnett Co., Georgia. Census records are often wrong.

3806. Francis I. Jackson-18687

The 1870 Census has some errors in it in that Francis is enumerated as female and his next two siblings are listed as being born in Mississippi. The 1860 Census shows Francis as male, born in Alabama and the 1880 Census gives Alabama as the birth state of Francis, William, and Martha. Sarah is correctly listed as born in Mississippi.

3807. William H. Jackson-18688

3808. Martha J. Jackson-18689

1851. Lenard Owen Jackson-17392

A descendant has written that this branch spells Lenard without the 'O'. It is spelled that way on Tombstones and legal papers and Lenard Owen's (first) will.

The above info indicates to me that there may have been a second will. He may have rewritten his original will because his son Emmett had died 1 Apr 1932. Lenard's will dated 28 April 1932 shows his son Emmett as deceased.

From book "Lonoke County Cemetery Inscriptions" comes the info "CSA Co. E 5th AL CAV. born in GA"

There is a Berry P. Jackson living next hh to Martha, widow of Claiborn. I have assumed this is Martha's son, Berry. But the age of this Berry P. in the 1880 & 1900 census is off So could this be the wrong family for Martha's son Berry T.? His mother moved to MS and lives next hh to this Berry!

3825. Taylor Jackson-19063

Taylor shows up as a son in the 1910 Census, but he is not with the family on the 1900 census. So far, I have not found any of the family in the 1920 census.

1856. Joel E. Jackson-17408

In the 1900 census, Joel is said to be born Jan 1856, but several of Claiborne's children have had trouble pinpointing their birth year. In 1860 Joel was abt 2 years old so I have used abt 1858 as a birth year. From 1860 through 1900 census records said he was born in Mississippi; but 1910 - 1930 census records have said he was born in Alabama. Possibly his parents gave the earlier info and his second wife gave the later info; so I have used Mississippi. Joel was widowed by the 1900 census and I do not know the first wife's name.

In 1900 Joel was in McNairy Co. Tennessee, the same county as his brother Berry. But Berry was in Civil Dist 5. The census page is very watermarked and difficult to read:

In the above 1930 census, Joel is living next hh to William L Jackson and his wife Lillie, and also to Allen G. Jackson and his wife Lois. So far I have not found a connection to either William L. or Allen G.

3833. Virgil 'Virgie' Jackson-19075

In the 1900 census he is listed as Virgie, a son born between Addie and Lillie. But in the 1910 census the handwriting is difficult and looks like 'Aragil A', born after Lillie. But I believe these are the same son as Virgie/Virgil doesn't show in the 1910. So his birth year is illegible in 1900 and so not conclusive. In 1900 his age looks like 7 so I am using abt 1893 as birth year.

3839. Annie L. Jackson-19083

Annie was listed in the 1920 census as Ruby and in the 1930 census as Annie L.

Candis Jackson 6 F TN abt 1844
David Jackson 2 M TN abt 1848 (with James and Rebecca in 1870)
The brackets are on the original image which probably means these 16 years olds were twins.

From the research of Reginia Jackson Gerspacher:
"August 26, 1861, James enlisted as a private in the 9th Brigade Texas Militia under Captain R. C. Bryan. There is no record of the 9th Brigade Texas Militia ever having seen any military action. August 1, 1862, James enlisted as a private in Company C, 1st Battalion Texas Sharp Shooters of the Confederate States Army under Major James Burnett. The Texas Sharp Shooters were part of the S. B. Maxey Brigade of Texas Infantry Volunteers commanded by Major James Burnett and called into service of the Confederate States in the Provisional Army."

Janie: Now we come to the 1860 mystery of the two James Jacksons living side by side in Lamar County Texas, both nearly the same age. Some sleuthing around turned up a Jackson researcher who has been researching these Jacksons for years - and doesn't use the Internet. This is Barbara Crumpton who has been able to untangle these families for us.

Barbara tells me that James F. s/o Hugh, married Mary Piland and had 7 children between 1859 and the time she died in 1869.
Meanwhile in the next household, Rebecca Baker Jackson's husband, James had died a bit earlier, leaving her with 4 young children.
So James F. and Rebecca married and merged their families and went on to have 2 more children together. This story cannot be pieced together just with census records and therefore many authors of online charts have not been able to determine which child belonged to which mother. So Rachel did raise Mary's children. And we are indebted to Barbara Crumpton for this good information.

1865. Lydia Candance Jackson-10607

The relationship calculator shows that Lydia Candance Jackson and James Madison Jackson are 1st cousins 1 time removed. Their common ancestors are David Jackson and Susan Lucy Meador.

From Barbara Crumpton: Two old interviewees say Stubbie Jim (James Francis) and Davy used to go by wagon to Tigertown (Lamar Co.) Texas to visit their sister Candy/Kansas who had married another James Jackson."

James Madison Jackson-10606

3853. Mary J. 'Mollie' Jackson-10655

From Barbara Crumpton: "Mollie died as young woman." Barbara had rec'd a letter from Sue Irby in 1961 which said that "Cousin Mollie Johnson lived in Bowie; had a daughter who ran an antique shop."

So perhaps further research would show that Mollie had married a Mr. Johnson and that's why she hasn't been found on the 1900 Census.
