Potts Polly died in Jefferson Twp Sept. 21, 1878, aged 69 years, 1 month and 26 days. She was born in Morris County, N.J. on July 25, 1809 and moved with her parents, David and Prudence Jackson, to the state of Ohio in 1814 and settled in Knox County, where she was married to John Potts on Nov. 20, 1828. She moved to Indiana in 1841 and settled on the farm where she died. She raised a large family. Funeral was at Jefferson Union Church. > 9-26-1878 ^ 9-26-1878

In 1841 he moved to Indiana and settled in Jefferson Twp, where he resided till his death. He leaves 3 daughters and 2 sons. His wife preceded him in death 9 years ago last Sept., since which time he has resided mostly with his daughter, Abigail Craven. He has 2 daughters and one son in the west and one son and one daughter in this county. ^ 1-27-1888
End of Sharon's research for John Potts. She also has pictures of his tombstone in Sweet Cemetery, Noble County, which I have not included.
Oscar Burton Robbin's says that William Imes was Guardian for John Potts in his later years but I have not found record of that. His bio above says he lived with Abigail in Noble County in his later years; and he is buried in Noble County. But I have not put that as his place of death as there was some question about it.
John's name is misspelled in the 1880 census so that it doesn't show up in searches. It is spelled Johm Potts.

OBR: Ira was a bachelor, never married and lived most of his life at Rome City, Indiana, alone.
In the 1870 Indiana, Noble County, Jefferson Dist Census Ira is h/o/h for himself and his brother, Alford's widow, Ann Corbin Potts with her 3 children, Ida, John Norman and Owen S. In 1872 Ann marries again to Abram Cary and Ira is alone again.
He was found in the 1880 Census living with his sister Abigail Rebecca Potts and her husband Henry Craven.
He was found in the 1900 Census living by himself, 70 years old, in Indiana, Noble County, Orange.

3209. James Doughty-2907
James had no issue. He died of TB at the home of his uncle David Jackson (1220) near laud, Indiana.
OBR lists her husband as Benjamin N. Beckett. Her obit states differently.
3211. Alfred Mahlon Doughty-3819
From OBR: "Alfred died while in the Confederate Army at Little Rock, Arkansas."
1613. Ira Curtis Jackson-1212
From OBR pg 127: "Letter from granddaughter, Lottie Gaskill: 'My grandfather Ira C. Jackson was the apple of my eye when I was a little girl. He was a good Christian man and I often think of him. I have his old Bible and it is marked many places where he has read and of interest to all. Think he wasn't treated nice when he became an old man. Have many memories of him as a wonderful Grandpa.'"
3218. Sarah Maring Jackson-2094
Sarah never married.
1614. Daniel Hathaway Jackson-1213
In 1835 or 1836 Daniel moved to Washington Township, Whitley County, Indiana. His obit says Daniel and Elizabeth had 12 children. A different obit from Columbia City Commercial appears to have several errors in it, including calling his second wife Elizabeth Sigfried.
From research of Art Reirson: Daniel was born in Knox County Ohio about eight miles east of Mt Vernon, Ohio.
He removed to Whitley County Indiana in 1854 and settled on the E 1/2 of
the NW 1/4 of Sec. 13-30-9 North. This 80 acres of various varieties of
excellent hardwood timber lies about 7 miles nearly due south of Columbia
City Indiana, and 1 mile north and 1/2 mile west of Laud, Indiana
At that time there was not a highway or road on the north end or section
line, and no means of ingress or egress, except at the south end through
his neighbor Johathan Hively's woods and lane from the east. So he
cleared land on the south end of the 80 acres, split rails and built
fences and plank house for living quarters. In about 1876 a good two story frame house, and a little later a good
timber framed barn were built. The valuable timber that was cut and
burned to make space for growing food would now bring a fabulous sum.
This tract of land later passed to the ownership of John Wilson Bennet
who later dismantled all of the buildings and erected a fine two story
eight room house in what remained of the woods on the north end, now on a
good paved highway. He has also erected a fine barn and other
buildings. There are perhaps no better 80 acres of improved farm land
anywhere in the state.

She was buried beside a former husband not far from and NW of Columbia City, Indiana, her former home.'

Oscar Burton Robbins book, pg 258: "Reuben Ettinger was married at Amity, Ohio, in the Inn of his father-in-law. Probably two children born there. Removed to Orange, Indiana, near St. Joe, 25 miles southeast of Waterloo; then to Huntington, Indiana. Worked at Cabinet trade, then in a year removed to Auburn, Indiana, where with his brother Joseph, started one of the first cabinet shops. Made caskets when they could get $16.00 per 1000 for finest walnut and cherry lumber when hauled to Fort Wayne, 26 miles.
"From Auburn removed to Waterloo, where they built planing mill and cabinet shop. At the time of the Civil War they had eight apprentices (4 years) released them all who went to War. Then moved to Angola, Indiana."

A quote from the magazine article:
Page 287:
"Occasionally, however, a diarist shows some literary skill, as, for example, Mitchell Y. Jackson. The first of the following extracts from his diary was written In 1856 on his fortieth birthday:
'The stream of time flows with accellerated velocity as we grow older. Forty Years! How long when looked at from the head of the stream and yet how short when viewed from the other end. How vividly and how indellibly is impressed upon the tablet of our memory all the windings and ripplings and little eddies of the miniature stream of our childhood.'In the second, Jackson recalls, after his removal to Minnesota, the maple sugar camps of Indiana:
'But we have no sugar making here. No making of sugar troughs —spiles — furnaces camps etc. My boys will know nothing of the pleasant excitement of the hurry & bustle of the "sugar-making". Sugar camps are perhaps the strongest marked localities of my boyhood.. . . And now at this distance I can almost smell the smoke and see the blazing fire as it used to shine upon the huge forest trees through the thick black darkness of an Indiana sugar-making night. With equal distinctness can I see the pearly drops and hear the peculiar trickling of the sacharine fluid as it flows from the spiles upon a bright, frosty, sunshiny morning — such as this.'
Occasional bits, such as these, color and enliven the diaries, but they are all too few."
Source: Jackson Diary, April 13, August 10, 1856. Jackson's farm was in Lakeland Township near Lake St. Croix.
--------------------------
Page 290:
"Jackson contrasted methods used In 1860 with those followed in his boyhood:
'Commence the new harvest by cutting my Rye. The old familiar clatter of the reaping machine sounds quite natural Though there is nothing about it that reminds me of harvest as conducted in the days of my boy hood. Then the old simple crooked sickle then the more formidable looking cradle were the only implements known. Now the machine drawn by 2 or 4 horses cuts its throng of four to six feet as fast as the team can walk, and from four to six men are busy
binding and setting up the sheaves.'"
Source: Jackson Diary, July 13, 1860.
---------------------
Page 295
"Sometimes the comments take a sharper form. Jackson wrote in 1857 that the new state constitution "allows all whitemen that have been here 10 days to vote. And the way the 'dear Irish' are marched up to vote the 'Dimmicratic ticket' is a sin against heaven & earth. . . . I think there were from 50 to 100 votes polled here by persons having no interest in the affairs of Minnesota."
