1505. William Flesher-2589
William was found in the 1850 Iroquois Co, IL Census living with his parents, his sister Phoebe and brother Jacob.
He was found again in the 1870 Iroquois Co, IL Census, married with three Flesher children and it looks like a 19 year old step-dau. I can't read the step-dau's name...Ke....r.
1506. Elias Flesher-1807
Elias's marriage to Susanna Scudder was perhaps a second marriage for him. He and Susanna were married in 1837 but in the 1840 census record, his household had 1 male (5 and under 10) and one female (10 and under 15) that I have not identified. The other female under 5 in this 1840 census would be Julia A who was born in 1839; so she was Susanna's child.
1840 Census:
Elias Flesher male 20-30
1 female 10 and under 15 (unknown, b abt 1825-1830)
1 male 5 and under 10 (unknown, b abt 1830-1836)
1 female under 5 (probably Julia b Dec 1839)
1 female 20-30 (wife: Susanna)Elias and family was found on the 1850 Salem, Warren Co, OH Census. His Mother, Lucinda, was living with them. Note also that the family name was spelled Fletcher at that time.

and son William Flesher.
William McFerren was appointed guardian for the above minor children with the exception of Ellis because Ellis had died July 1852 before these guardianship papers were filed. The final settlement of the estate was made in Mar 26, 1868 at which time the guardian stated that William had died and that his share was divided between the other heirs.
According to the 1850 and 1860 Warren Co Census, Susanna was born in Ohio. Her first marriage was to Elias Flesher in 1837. In the 1850 Census, she was found as the wife of Elias Flesher, with 6 of their children and his Mother, Lucinda Jackson Flesher. In this 1850 Census, their name was spelled Fletcher. In the 1860 Census, the childrens' names were spelled Flesher. By the time of the 1860 census, Elias had died and Susanna was married again to Stephen Jackson, a cousin of Elias. So she and Elias' children are listed with her second husband, Stephen Jackson. Their 1860 census record is listed in Stephen's Notes.
A puzzlement to this webmaster - Benjamin, Albert and Andrew are old enough to show on a census first in 1860. They are listed as Flesher children, and it was assumed were living with their mother, Susanna Scudder Flesher Jackson and their new step-father Stephen Jackson. But after Elias the father died, his oldest 4 children were placed under guardianship as they were minors. Why were not the younger 3 children also placed under guardianship?? And the birthdate of Andrew presents a problem. Could the younger three children have been nephews Susanna was raising; and perhaps someone else was their guardian?? I noted that these 3 younger children were not with Susan on the 1870 census below. I noticed also that when the older Flesher children received an inheritance from their grandfather Alfred Scudder, these 3 boys were not included in that inheritance. I had begun to doubt if they were Susanna's children, and this issue needed more research.
Paula Mellor provided the info below; and this proved that these 3 boys were Stephen Jackson's children and were not named Flesher. This also resolves the problem with Andrews birthdate.

2925. Alfred Flesher-2786
Alfred, age 9 was found on the 1850 Warren Co, Ohio census living with his father Elias Flesher and his mother Susanna Scudder Flesher.
Alfred, age 18, was found on the 1860 Warren Co Census living in the household of Sarah Luce, his mother's sister. Sarah was a recent widow with 3 children. He was listed as an 'prentice'. Sarah Luce may have taken in boarders because there was another young man listed also and he was a plasterer.
In 1864 Alfred was an heir of his grandfather Alfred Scudder's estate. The grandfather named Susannah's children by Elias Flesher has his heirs and not his daughter, Susannah, probably as she had married again to Stephen Jackson, a man with many children of his own. So Afred protected his grandchildren's inheritance.

2928. William J. Flesher-2592
William J. Flesher was found on the 1860 Warren Co, Ohio census living with the family of Warren Snyder. He was 14. I haven't found what the relationship might be. William's father died in 1852 but his mother was still alive in 1860.
In 1864 William was an heir of his grandfather Alfred Scudder. Alfred named Susannah's children by Elias Flesher has his heirs and not his daughter, Susannah, probably as she had married again to Stephen Jackson, a man with many children of his own. So Afred protected his grandchildren's inheritance.
William died in the Civil War. He served in the 17th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Info found in the book "Lest We Forget" Vol. I, pg 58; compiled by Mary M. Everhart for the WCGS, copyright 2002. The book is in the WCGS Records room, Warren Co, OH.
The final settlement of his father, Elias' estate was made in Mar 26, 1868 at which time the guardian stated that William had died and that his share was divided between the other heirs.

1510. Catherine Flesher-8363
Jackson Ledger @ HCPD mentions "Mr. Flesher" on pg 22.
Larry Flesher says Catherine's father William died in 1817.
Ms. Barker says that his child Catherine was born in 1825.
Matella P. Doughman also says that Catherine was born in 1825 and that she doesn't know where Willliam Flesher lived after his wife Lucinda died.
So some data is in error here; probably the date and location of William Flesher's death.10 Dec 1842

"Nathan, went about 1840 to settle in Gilmer County. The land which he purchased near Stout's Mills he later exchanged for another near the village of Townsend's Mills - later known as Cedarville. A teacher of subscription schools, a farmer, Nathan later served as a commissioner in the division of Gilmer County from Lewis. His wife was Elizabeth Ann Cottril from Harrison County. The children settled in homes nearby and became substantial members of the Community. The youngest, John S. Stout inherited the home farm."

Edward was not on the 1880 Census in Harrison Co, WV. Amanda, his wife, was living in Harrison Co, WV with her 82 year old mother, Elizabeth Blake. A Stout History site says that Edward died in Missouri of yellow fever and that his son William was the only one who stayed in Missouri. William Stout has been found on the St. Clair, Missouri, 1900 census.St Clair County, Missouri: Circuit Court Docket, Term Commencing March 1st, 1880:Civil Cases.E. J. Stout vs Samuel J. Samuel Boring was Edward's son-in-law. But Edward has not been found on any 1880 census. The census was started in June 1880. I have not seen the above court case record. And Edward may have died between March & June of 1880.

Their marriage record in 1879 shows both were 20 years old; but George probably fudged on his age because both census records above show him 2 years younger than his wife. His death record shows his birth date to be 18 June 1861.
George and his brother Thomas J. both married sisters. Malona Tanner and Thomas' wife Sarah Tanner were sisters. Their Tanner girls' father had died and they were raised by their mother and step-father, Albert Lewis.
The 1880 census shows George's nephew, Clark Minter, living with the young couple. They may have raised him and his family could have known of George and Malona's children.
On George W's and Malona's death certificate it has that they were buried in Rockford Cemetery, Harrison County, WV.
See the Notes for her husband George. Both the 1900 census record and George's death record prove that Malona is the correct wife for George.
