1487. Daniel Jackson-82
Likely birthplaces could be Harrison Co, Virginia or the Ravenswood area, then Mason County, Virginia, now Jackson County, West Virginia..
He and his wife are between 20 & 30 in Meigs Co, OH 1830 census. There are 2 children under 5 and a young girl between 15 & 20 living with them.
He and his wife are between 30 & 40 in the Jackson Co, VA 1840 census. There are 7 children in the family. He is living beside Lawrence Lane, the second husband of Daniel's mother, Eleanor.
His brother, Hezehiah and his young wife are also in this 1840 census. But by 1850, the family had broken up. We don't know yet what happened, but I have not found Mary in any census. Daniel and his oldest son are living in a hotel, one daughter is married and the other children are farmed out to other families.
Daniel is found in the 1850 Jackson Co, VA census, age 45 yrs, laborer, born in VA, living in a Hotel.
His age in 1860 census is 52 yrs, living with Harmon and Charlotte (Jackson) Barnhart; Daniel's daughter.
His age in 1870 census is 69 yrs, living with Thomas & Eliza (Taylor) Landon.Daniel's children in 1850:
Hezekiah (13) was living with Joseph & Nancy (Cobb) Buffington in Meigs Co, OH
Sarinia (4) was living with Joseph & Nancy (Cobb) Buffington in Meigs Co, OH
Leonard (5) was living with John & Matilda Lee in Meigs Co, OH
David A. (17) was living with Silas & Anne Taylor in Meigs Co, OH
Elizabeth (11) was living with John & Mozella Armstrong in Jackson Co, VA
Charlotte (21) had married Harmon Barnhart in 1844 and was listed with Harmon in Jackson Co, VA
William (21)was living with Peter ?? who kept Hotel in Jackson Co, VA
Daniel the father (45), was living in the same Hotel in Jackson Co, VAOne of Daniel's sons, Hezekiah's descendants emailed me that "Hez had 3 brothers and 3 half-brothers; all 6 brothers were in the Civil War (3 Union and 3 Confederates)."
If anyone knows anything about this family or these children, please contact the webmaster . . .
I (Janie) have today 3/6/2006, received a wonderful family history concerning the descendants of Daniel's son, Hezekiah, with a brief paragraph about Daniel which I will quote below. I encourage you to read the whole fascinating history in the "Historical Stories' section. The History, called "Home Folks" was written by Eunice and Cart for their children and the first paragraph is as follows:
"Your great grandfather, Daniel Jackson, was married twice and each wife bore him three sons. The family lived in West Virginia, where there was a great division of sentiment during the Civil War and feeling ran very high, frequently dividing families. The three older boys, Dave, Bill and Ned, joined the Confederate army, while the younger brothers, your Grandfather Hezekiah, and his two brothers, George (Uncle Charlie's father) and Len, became Union soldiers. Your grandfather said he never went into battle that he did not pray he would not meet one of his older brothers in the enemy lines. He never did, though his half-brother, Dave, was killed fighting against the Union Soldiers." This last statement though is not correct as David was still alive and on the census for 1880.
2865. Ned Jackson-3605
Ned was found on the 1830 census but was not named. His name was found in the "Home Folks" family history that can be read in the "Historical Stories" section - see Table of Contents. This tells of his service in the Confederate Army.
2866. William S. 'Bill' Jackson-3591
William (Bill) is mentioned in the "Home Folks" family history that can be read in the "Historical Stories" section - see Table of Contents. This tells of his service in the Confederate Army.
William, age 21, was founding in the 1850 Jackson County VA census living in the same hotel as his father, Daniel. It appears that both his mother and stepmother have died and the family has broken up with the younger children being farmed out to other families, with the exception of his sister Charlotte who had married.
2870. Elizabeth Jackson-3609
Elizabeth, 11 years old, is found in the 1850 Jackson Co, (W)Va census living with John & Mozella Armstrong. I don't know is there was a family relationship with this couple or not. Her Mother had probably died (she's not in the census) and her other siblings farmed out to other families. See her father, Daniel's Notes.
2872. Sarina-Sarinia Jackson-3606
Sarina is found in the 1850 Meigs Co OH census living with Joseph and Nancy Cobb Buffington. Her brother Hezekiah is also enumerated in this household. See her father Daniel's Notes.
1489. Sarah Jane 'Sallie' Jackson-812
Sarah's Will was written 13 Mar 1869 and probated 24 Apr 1869.
ALT birthday rec'd from Nancy Jackson is 26 Oct, 1800. The 1806 date taken from Cemetery book.
William's Will was written 2 Jul 1867, probated 11 Jan 1869.
1490. Ellenor 'Nellie' Jackson-83
Buried with the last name of her second husband, thus: Ellender Edwards.

2882. Samuel Jackson Reed-2575
The 1850 Barbour County Census lists him as Lance J. Reed, but Reed researcher, Charlene Cathell says his name was Samuel Jackson Reed and that "he was born mentally challenged and continued to live with his mother until his death at age 29."
2885. Absalom Reed-3201
Info on Absalom was from Charlene Cathell. She writes: "The names and dates of births (Absalom and Sarah) are from a handwritten list that my great aunt had given me. i would say from the style of writing and age of paper that it was written the late 1800s at least. I have never seen Absalum's name listed on a census or anywhere else other than the handwritten list, so he may have died very young."
1491. Benjamin Jackson-636
Benjamin made his home for several years with his cousin, Stephen P. Jackson. This must have been before he married, then moved to Yellow Creek because in 1840 he was still in Lewis County. Benjamin and Betty must have lived after their marriage, right next to her parents as they were listed next to each other on the 1840 Lewis County, (W)VA Census, Roll 566, Page 166.
Below is a portion of an article transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilms of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 6/12/1898. The author of this article is not given, but it was probably written by the newspaper's editor at the time, S.C. Barr. This transcription found at the Hur Herald site.
"Ben Jackson, an enterprising young man, settled with his young wife on the place now known as the old Jackson farm in 1843. Their rude, but comfortable log cabin was then the only house on the path between the Little Kanawha and Hughes river, the way the path then ran from Leafbank to the present site of Smithville."Quote from son Edward's obit: "Benjamine Jackson moved to Yellow Creek in the early 1840s when there were few settlers in this part of the country."
On the marriage records from lindapages.com, Calhoun County, the name of Edward's father is spelled Bengamine and on Samuel's marriage record his father's name is abbreviated as Benj. After Bengamine died Elizabeth married again. She and her new husband (Ferrell) are found in the 1860 census for Calhoun County; therefore, Bengamine died before 1860.
Benjamin is buried at Hunt Cemetery, Calhoun County, and his stone gives his death date and age in yr, mos and days. So his calculated birth date is 10 Nov 1816. Some family records state his birth date was 23 Oct 1817 so I don't know which is correct.
Elizabeth 'Betty' Stallman-690
Her obit said that she and Benjamine Jackson had four sons, only Edward and Samuel still living as of August, 1901. Her son P.J. Ferrell, wrote a thank you notice to the Calhoun Chronicle dated Aug 24, 1901, so possibly her death date was the prior Thursday, Aug 15, 1901.
She (age 41) and her second husband, Franklin B. Ferrill, (age 60) are both found in the Calhoun Co 1860 Census. Edward and Samuel are living with them. Elizabeth and F. B. Ferrell had three sons and one daughter according to her obit; but in the 1860 Calhoun Co census there are two sons and two daughters listed; Robert M, Phillip S, Mary E. and Nancy S. Only Mary's name agrees with the obit! A remarkable woman; a copy of "Aunt Betty" Ferrell's obit is on this site. It is also posted at lindapages.com/Calhoun County/Obituaries/Collection II under "F" for Ferrell.
The Jackson Ledger @ HCPD shows Benjamin Jackson's wife's name as Isabelle Stallman. Her obit gives her name as Elizabeth, more frequently called Betty. Her Kanawha County marriage record lists her as Mary Stolman.
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=12567289&Type=MarriageEmail from Larry Hefner says her birth date was Aug 12, 1818, in Lewis County; and Wm Hamilton Jackson's papers say her birth date was Dec 4, 1818. Stephen Alonzo Jackson's record says she was born Dec 21, 1818. I have used the birth date from her tombstone.
'Betty' and her husband Benjamine must have lived after their marriage, right next to her parents as they were listed next to each other on the 1840 Lewis County, (W)VA Census, Roll 566, Page 166.

2889. Eleanor 'Nellie' Jackson-743
Wm. Hamilton Jackson's notes say that "Nellie' died at about 6 mos of age. This fits Eleanor's age at death, so 'Nellie' must have been her nickname.
1493. Jane Jackson-84
Jane and Benjamin Arnold were cousins. Jane's father, Samuel, and Benjamin's mother, Jemima, were brother and sister whose parents were Edward & Martha Miller Jackson.
Virginia Marriages, 1740-1850
Groom Name: Benjamin Arnold
Bride Name: Susannah W. Wamsley
Marriage Date: 21 Oct 1816
County: Randolph
State: VirginiaOn the 1850 census, District 27, Jackson County, Virginia, Ruth Arnold, age 15, and Martin V. Arnold, age 13, are both enumerated in the household of Thomas Maris and it was an assumption that Ruth and Martin are siblings.
On the 1860 Census, district n/g, Jackson Co., Virginia, Martin V. Arnold is enumerated in his father's household, Benjamin Arnold and they are living NEXT HOUSEHOLD to the above Thomas Mairs/Maris and family. Benjamin is 65 yrs old, Thomas' wife Louisa is 38 yrs old and a possible daughter of Benjamin. Thomas and Louisa have named a son Benjamin.Later: The typed death record of Rutha Arnold is found showing her parents as Benj. J. Arnold and Susan Arnold and the informant was Thomas MORRIS. And on the original handwritten record here:
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=5797140&Type=Death the informant is listed as Thos. Mairs, brother-in-law. This verifies that Thomas Mairs's wife Louisa is Benjamin's daughter!.1860 Census District n/g, Jackson County, Virginia

1495. Mariah Jackson-1710
Mariah's father and mother were living in Meigs Co, OH during the 1820 census. Mariah was born in 1821. Her father died in 1821 and sometime after that, the mother and children moved back to Ravenswood, Mason (now Jackson) County, (W)VA. Mariah and her husband, James Blake are found in the 1850 Jackson Co, VA census. Her husband and oldest children are born in PA, the younger children born in VA, probably Mason (now Jackson) Co, (W)VA.
Mariah's Mother and Father were living in Meigs Co, OH, in 1821 and I have assumed that was where she was born. Sometime after her father died in Nov of 1821, her mother took the children and all moved back to her Mothers home area in Jackson County, VA. Hardesty's History says Mariah was 'a Virginian by birth'. She was certainly raised in the Ravenwood area (W)VA, but it is questionable if she was born there. Ah, the 1850 census below says she was born in Ohio.
1850 Jackson Co WV # 229-233Blake James 34 M Farmer PaBlake Maria 29 F OhioBlake George 16 M PaBlake William 13 M PaBlake Mary A 12 F PaBlake James 10 M PaBlake Ephraim 4 M VaBlake Sarah E 2 F VaBlake Emanuel 3/12 M Va
It is possible that James was married before and that his marriage to Mariah was his second marriage. There is a list of 16 cemetery inscriptions copied by Eunice Proctor Perkins which inscriptions were not located in 1984 and are evidently destroyed or eroded since read by Mrs. Perkins. One says:
Blake, S______ w/o Jam____ Blake
d. 31 Aug 1841, aged 24 y 3 mo.
It is very likely that this is James' first wife and she died before James and Mariah married in 1843. I note several of the children below had to be born before James' marriage to Mariah. (P.S. Betty Briggs has that James' 1st wife was Sarah Ann Brown and that the first 4 children below were hers.)1850 Jackson Co WV # 229-233Blake James 34 M Farmer PaBlake Maria 29 F OhioBlake George 16 M Pa (b approx 1834)Blake William 13 M Pa (b approx 1837)Blake Mary A 12 F Pa (b approx 1838)Blake James 10 M Pa (b approx 1840)Blake Ephraim 4 M VaBlake Sarah E 2 F VaBlake Emanuel 3/12 M Va
So I assume that James moved with his first wife and children to the Jackson County area from Pennsylvania and after the first wife died, James married Maria Jackson.

1498. Lemuel Jackson Flesher-2582
Lemuel J. was found in the 1850 Census in Iroquois Co, IL with Eliza and 5 children. He was also found in the 1860 Census in Iroquois Co, IL with Eliza and 3 children. And in the 1870 Census in Mt. Pleasant, lawrence County, Missouri, possibly with son Robert and Robert's wife. He is living next door to his son, Hiram.
2901. Hiram H. Flesher-3291
Hiram was found in both 1850 and 1860 census in Iroquois Co, IL living with his parents. By 1870 he was married and living in Mt. Pleasant, lawrence Co, Missouri. His father had moved there also and lived in the next household.
2904. Bishop 'Robert' Flesher-3294
The 1860 Census lists Bishop R. Flesher, age 8 with est birth date of 1851 and
the 1870 Census lists Robert Flesher, age 19 with est birth date of 1851. I have therefore assumed that Bishop R. is Bishop Robert. This assumption may be in error.
1501. John Flesher-2585
John is found on the 1850 Census in Iroquois County, Illinois in his own household with his second wife Mary and dau Sarah.
His father and mother and brothers Lemuel & Stephen are also listed in this census on these pages.
In the 1880 Census, same County, he is living with his brother William and family and John is a widower.
