Ellinore was the widow of Mr. McClellan. She was John's second wife. She is with John on the 1850, 1860 and is without him on the 1870 census. On the 1860 census there is living with them a Mariah Sutphen and on the 1870 census it is recorded Maria Sutphin, "home with daughter". Maria/Mariah was born in New Jersey.
On the 1850 census Ellinore's two children, Daniel and Mariah McClellan, are living with John and their mother. On the 1860 census only Daniel is still with them. Sarah O. Hardin 5 F INNext hh to Isaac and Rebecca is 76 yr old Martha Jackson also b in MD. If Martha was Rebecca's mother this calls into question whether this is the right Rebecca or if Martha Chambers, wife of James Jackson was born in NC as we have.
It would be good to have some way to verify that the Rebecca who married Isaac Hardin was Rebecca Jackson, d/o James Jackson and Martha Patsy Chambers. On the 1850 census for Marion Co., IN, I find Isaac Hardin b in TN & his wife Rebecca b in MD. And next hh to Isaac & Rebecca in 1850 is a 76 yr old Martha Jackson b in MD.In spite of the doubts raised by this reference to Maryland, I went ahead with inputting Rebecca's family and did find some more info on her son James Thomas and his family. When I found James Thomas' 1880 record it was reassuring to see that he said his mother was born in TN but without additional verification I left Rebecca's birth state blank. I know census records are often wrong, nevertheless, that reference to Maryland is troubling and I would like additional verification that this Rebecca is the daughter of James Jackson and Martha Patsy Chambers and where she was born.

Pure Guess: There is a burial for a Mattie Hardin in the same cemetery as Martha's brother James Thomas. It is not known who this Mattie is but there is a possibility she is James' sister Martha or she could be a wife of one of James' sons. Just thought I'd note this possibility.

The following three paragraphs were copied from ancestry.com Indiana/Counties/Tipton msg board posted by Linda Hancock in Jan 2006:
Tipton County was originally part of the Miami Indian reserve and a very swampy area. It did not become a county until 1844 and on the first election Newton J. Jackson was elected clerk. In the book "Tipton County Her Land and People" there is some information about Carter T. Jackson: 'In 1835 Newton J. Jackson entered 320 acres of land in Section 19 of Madison Township. The next year his (older) brother Carter T. Jackson bought 240 acres in Section 20 at $1.25 an acre. In 1838 the Jackson brothers and their families all moved here from Wayne County. Newton and Carter Jackson's parents, James and Martha Chambers Jackson, were natives of North Carolina, but they were so opposed to slavery that they had moved from Kentucky to Wayne County in 1812 when the Twelve-Mile Purchase came on the market. There they and the Robert Leavell family were neighbors; children of both families were among Tipton County's first land owners.' and it goes on. They both married Leavell sisters.
Memoirs of John W. Leavell, 1916 from a Daun Ledford on Ancestry.com: "Carter and Malinda, Moved to Tipton Co Indiana where he had previously entered 240 acres of land and there cleared their farmland and reared a large family. He afterwards added 300 acres to his first purchase, but they resided upon the original purchase until their deaths."

CARTER T.JACKSON, was born in Bourbon County, Ky., March 7, 1807, and is the second son of James and Martha (Chambers) Jackson, both natives of North Carolina. Carter came with his parents to Wayne County, Ind., when five years of age, where his father entered land and began farming; he also tanned his own leather, and made shoes for the family, his wife spinning the flax and wool, from which his clothes were made. He was an active Democrat, and he and wife were prominent Baptists. Carter grew up a pioneer farmer, and received a fair education at the peculiar schools of that day. When twenty-one years or age, he began teaching for his neighbors; he also worked on the farm until 1838, when he located in this county, and entered 240 acres at $1.25 per acre, where he erected a cabin and resided therein while unfinished. His trading was done and grain ground at Milton and Perkinsville; his wheat was hauled to Lawrenceburg-120 miles-for 62 1/2 cents per bushel.Mr. Jackson resided in the county five years previous to its organization, and was inspector of the first election, there being but nineteen votes cast; these he carried to Noblesville on horseback. He gave his first vote for Gen. Jackson in 1832, and has since voted with the Democrats. In 1845, he was elected to the Legislature from Tipton and Hamilton Counties, and has since been very popular. Mr. Jackson was married, June 7, 1836, to Miss Malinda Leavell, of Wayne County, Ind., born November 13, 1815. By this union they had nine children-Monroe, Louisa (deceased), Lafayette, F. Marion, Thomas J., Sarah M., Andrew, Terence M. and Serepta L. Mrs. Jackson died March 2, 1873, aged fifty-eight years. Mr. Jackson has a very extensive orchard, which he himself planted from seed gathered in Wayne County.
