1160. Rebecca T. Jackson-1091
Middle initial from Donna Barraclough-Little. The middle initial is also on her tombstone; photo at find-a-grave. The written memorial is in question as of Jan 7, 2012 and a response from Paul Loss, owner of the memorial: "When I have more free time, I will look at the conflicting info on the various headstones and get back to you. I believe you are correct about the town names."
Jacob Seaman Jackson Jones-1094
The children of Jacob and Rebecca are taken from the rootsweb chart of Donna Barraclough-Little. These children have a lot of Jackson heritage: their mother was a Jackson and her line extends all the way to John Jackson and Elizabeth Hallet. The children’s father was son of Elizabeth Jackson whose line extends up to John Jackson and Kesia Mott.
As of 7 Jan 2012 the memorial #18677974 at Find-a-Grave shows the photo of his tombstone with his given names 'Jacob S. Jackson' across the top and beneath that "son of Thomas and Elizabeth Jones, died Mar 5, 1894, aged 82 years." I've been in contact with the owner of the memorial to correct the written record as it currently says this is Jacob S. Jackson. A similar error has occurred with the memorial #18677890 of his daughter Elizabeth Turk Jones. The owner of the memorial responded that he would check into this as soon as he is able.

The photo of her tomestone shows the following inscription:

Born May 7, 1845
Died Nov 16, 1931
"For Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes"
"Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also
and he praiseth her."NOTE: The inscriptions says she died in 1931 though the memorial record has 1941. Probably a typo.

2245. Eleanor Turk Jones-8249
There is conflicting data concerning her tombstone that I have not yet resolved. She is Memorial #18677890 at Find-a-grave. I have written the owner of the memorial in hopes that he can shed some light on this puzzlement. As of 7 Jan 2012 his response "When I have more free time, I will look at the conflicting info on the various headstones and get back to you." Her tombstone indicates her name as Eleanor Turk Jackson, the memorial itself lists her as Eleanor Jackson Turk. Perhaps she married a Jackson?? I don't know yet - more research is needed. The memorial for her father and mother also conflicts with their tombstone information; thus causing my email to him. Perhaps he will be able resolve this.
1161. Thomas Jackson-982
Thomas' estimated birth date is based on the assumption that he was about 21 years of age when he married in 1838.
1162. Townsend Jackson-983
The Townsend in the following quote is very likely the father of Jones Jackson. And possibly the son of Obadiah as Obadiah left a large estate which would enable his interest in horse breeding/racing. Wallace's American Trotting Register, Vol. 7 by National Assoc. of Trotting Horse Breeders, pg 95: #6773 PHOENIX (6) . . . "Bred by Thomas Jackson and Jacob Seib, Brooklyn, NY; passed to Townsend Jackson; then to Jones Jackson, Jamestown, NY; then to Henry Sylvester, Sinclairsville, NY; then to E. A. Chipman, Watts Flatts, NY.
From "The Jamestown Journal" 2 Sep 1859 found at www.genealogybank.com:
At the Second Annuel Fair of the Busti Union Agricultural Society held at Busti, Sept 7th and 8th 1859: The privilege of competing for Premiums is extended to Warren County, Pa., and Chautauqua County, NY. Among the Judges of Class Second Horses was Townsend Jackson. See also http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/bioTownsendJackson.htm for Townsend Jackson's biography which mentions his love of fine horses. The following source gives a birthdate of 16 Aug 1823; the biography in the Chautauqua county history publication gives an ALT birthdate of 16 Aug 16, 1824. His gravestone has 1823.

Find A Grave Memorial# 43666229"Thus, we have the years of his birth and death. Note that these dates nearly agree with those that are listed in the book 'A Documentary History of the Dutch Congregation of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Island of Nassau (Now Long Island), Volumes 1 - 5', by Henry A. Stoutenburgh that was cited earlier in this report, i.e. “b. Aug. 16, 1823; d. Jan. -, 1902”. Since the author of the book, Mr. Stoutenburgh, stated in his tome that “The two oldest boys used to live with their gd. [grand-] father Nostrand in C. S. [“Cedar Swamp”, part of today’s Glen Head, Long Island, N.Y.], and attended school there with the compiler”, it is likely that he was still in contact, either directly or indirectly, with them and thus obtained information on Townsend and Margaret Jackson that was almost up-to-date. The date of death given in the book is probably when he learned of Townsend Jackson’s passing, which actually occurred the previous year."
The birth and death dates are taken from a photo of her gravestone at Find-a-Grave website.
The dates on her gravestone are similar to those given in Mr. Stoutenburgh’s book, i.e. “b. Oct. 2, 1824; living in Mch., 1902”. Obviously, she was still alive in March of 1902 when he was compiling the book [it was published that year]. The year of her birth given on her tombstone is one year off; this could be due to an error on Mr. Stoutenburgh’s case, a mistake by the stonemason, or perhaps they were still viewing a year as beginning on April First, as was the custom up until the 1750’s

This appears to have been a large group home with 'inmates' of all ages. A google search for this facility finds information that this facility was a NY state run facility who accepted both 'mentally incompetant' and patients of 'normal mentality'. They accepted both indigents and persons whose family could pay for their care. A look at the occupations of the 'inmates' shows that many had occupations but many did not.

I took the liberty of cleaning it up, since the person who posted it omitted spaces between many words and initials, which is why it never appeared when I searched for her sister, Olive B. Jackson, who is mentioned in it:“Entry dated April 26, 1930 [i.e. Saturday, April 26, 1930; I assume that this is also the publication date]
Newspaper obit clipping pasted in journal:
Mrs. Louise Garfield
Mrs. Louise Garfield, widow of Albert P. Garfield, died at 8:40 o’clock Friday evening [i.e. Friday, April 25, 1930] at her home in Lakewood Road, aged 77 years. She is survived by a sister, Miss Olive B. Jackson of Lakewood Road and a brother, Edward N. Jackson of Youngsville, PA. Mrs. Garfield was born at Sands Point [,] Long Island and had lived in this vicinity for 76 years.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church [sic: Church] at Busti [i.e. Busti, Chautauqua, New York, bordering Ellicott].
The funeral will be held at the home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon.”Unfortunately, the name of the newspaper in which this was published is not given, but the mention of her siblings does confirm her identity [note, however, that her brother is listed here as “Edward N. Jackson”, which is a different middle initial that the “Edward Mott Jackson”. Note that it says she was born on Long Island, not in Chautauqua County like her siblings before and after her. Perhaps her parents were visiting relatives when she was born.

Jackson, Ollie F 30 artistDr. Troha found several references to an “Epenetus N. Jackson”, who lived in Chautauqua County, New York. The first is a newspaper item indicating that had completed his mortgage payments:
The Buffalo Express, Thursday Morning, April 24, 1902, Page 5, Column 2:
“ITEMS OF LEGAL RECORD
...
DISCHARGES OF MORTGAGES.
...
Epenetus N. Jackson to George D. Melhuish [surname practically illegible; may be misspelt] —December, 1901”
Next, he apparently bought property through a sheriff sale, for we find:The Buffalo Express, Wednesday Morning, September 3, 1902, Page 5, Column 5:
“CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY.
OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS RECORDED YESTERDAY IN MAYVILLE.
[Note: Mayville is the county seat of Chautauqua County, New York]

...
George W. Boomer [surname nearly illegible; may actually be “Roomer”] et al. (by sheriff) to Epenetus N. Jackson, Ellicott…. [$]25.00 [value difficult to read; may be $ 25.90]”Then, Epenetus N. Jackson was apparently assigned part of the ownership of a patent for a “combination-washbench” in 1905, but there is no reason given for this action on the part of the inventor:
“UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE
————
ABIJAH T. WILCOX, OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO EDWARD F. FENTON, OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK, AND EPENETUS N. JACKSON.COMBINATION-WASHBENCH.
———
No. 805,331. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed November 25, 1904. Serial No. 234,132.”The final reference to Epenetus Jackson is in a line amidst an itemized list of expenses in the proceedings of the Board of Supervisors of Chautauqua County, New York in 1910:
“Journal of Proceedings – Chautauqua County, New York, Board of Supervisors”, Printed in Mayville, N.Y. (1910). Page 172 [the page contains a balance sheet of the various expenses incurred:
Credit by cash paid for care of Epenetus Jackson …. 230.001900 United States Federal Census
Name: Epenetus Jackson, Age: 44
Father: Townsend Jackson
Residence: Chautauqua, New York
Perhaps he was in ill health and passed away before the next census was taken; that would explain the 1910 Board of Supervisors journal entry cited above. After this discovery, I found Epenetus Jackson’s final resting place on FindAGrave.com. He was buried in the Chautauqua County Poor House Cemetery, which makes sense, since he was being supported by the county in 1910 [no photograph of his gravestone accompanied the listing].
2254. Olive B. 'Ollie' Jackson-24048
On the 1892 New York State Census 'Ollie' was listed as an artist. She was single. She was listed as Miss Olive B. Jackson in her sister, Louise's 1930 obituary.
Notes from Dr. Troha:
Olive B. Jackson-24048, was listed in a 1902 book as the secretary of the local “Woman’s Board of Missions”, a religious organization that still exists today [she would have been nearly forty years of age at this time]:“Thirty-Fifth Annual Report of the Woman’s Board of Missions, Presented at Its Annual Meeting in Washington, D. C., November 5 and 6, 1902”, published by The Woman’s Board of Missions, printed by Frank Wood, Printer, Boston (1902)
Page 122:“JAMESTOWN : Mrs. A. L. Smalley, 316 East Fourth Street, Pres.; Mrs. S. A. Baldwin, 608 Pendergrast Avenue, Vice Pres.; Miss Olive B. Jackson, Lakewood Road, Sec’y; Mrs. C. M. Brown, Lake View Avenue, Treas.; membership, 50.”
Note that she is listed as living on the same road as that cited in her sister’s [Louise 1930] obituary. I found additional references to an “Olive B. Jackson” who donated money to various charitable causes in New York State in 1907 and 1909, but there was no definitive evidence that this was her and not a namesake.

Sarah Hewlett Jackson was found on a rootsweb chart listed as a daughter of "Sarah J. Boerem and Obediah Jackson" by a Hayden researcher.
At Find-a-Grave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=45593247 Sarah and Nehemiah share a headstone which reads:
"In Memory of
Nehemiah Hatden
Born Dec 1st 1819
Died Feb 1st 1901
There is everlasting peace, rest, enduring rest, in heaven.
Sarah H. Jackson
Wife of Nehemiah Jackson
Born Feb 9th 1834
Died May 30th 1916"
In Bunker's book Nehemiah's name is spelled Haydon, but the photo of his tombstone (found at Find-a-Grave) spells his name Hayden.

Back matter:
"On the west side of Middle Neck Road, going north was the Post Office and General Store of Nehimiah Hayden (son of John K.), whose house was attached to the store. The fact that the post office was the meeting place of the village and that there were so many Haydens about led this part of the Neck to be called 'Haydenville' in those days."And on page 26 of this book is found a quote which was inscribed on the inner side of a hand-hewn base board of a house and covered for years. It was uncovered in 1936 when "refurbishing the old Allen manse, abaft the Mill Pond on the ancestral Allen-Udall-Skidmore-Eldridge acreage". "This House Was Bilt by John K. Hayden In the Year 1819 And When it is Repared I Wish that The Carpenters Wood Make Good Work for It Most (most or might) Likely I Shall Not Bee In This Country to Inspect It. August 20it 1819

Mary's birthdate is an assumed one. This date is given as her date of death on the website for her burial:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mfox7/jerusalemfriends.html
but this date as a date of death requires that her birth date is an impossibility, given the age of her parents. Therefore, I am assuming the date given is her birthdate and not her date of death as this makes much more sense. The record says she died at age 29 years, one month and 14 days giving a calculated d/o/d as 14 Sep 1849. This also fits in with the fact of Mary and Elbert's child dying in 1849. It appears that mother and child died the same year.Later: These above dates were later verified by finding them in the book: "The Jones Family of Long Island: Descendants of Major Thomas Jones" pg 157.
1197. Thomas William Jones-9070
I, Janie, did not find this family in the 1850 census and I would have expected them to be there in Hempstead. It looks like the 1860 census below is the right Thomas & Miriam but since I have not verified it by any other means, I have not included the 1860 children in the data base. But we can be assured that the 1870 & 1880 below are the correct family.
I think it is strange that the two youngest children, James and Alice do not show up on the 1870 census. Oddities like this usually means more research is needed. I note that from the 1860 through 1880 the ages of the children do not exactly jibe. **Later: See note below as I have found a different 1870 census records that needs to be compared.1860 Census 81, Hempstead, Queens Co., New York

Jones, James W M 19 son S NY NY NY
Jones, Alice W F 16 dau S NY NY NY (note that Alice was not in the above 1870 census but she is in the one below.)Now these similarities are strange. It is possible that these are Thomas' wife Mariam's parents with their dau Phoebe. Perhaps Marian was on an extended visit with them and had children Albert, Mary and Alice with her. And the whole household was enumerated.
