8802. Dr. Frank Burdette 'Jack' Jackson-2708
It is possible that Frank's middle name was Burdette and that he went by that name. Basing this on info in his brother Elbur's obituary. - Later, his daughter wrote me (Janie) that his middle name was Burdette and he went by Frank professionally. However, his wife and friends called him, 'Jack', his nickname and a grandchild was named Jack in his honor.
'Jack' Jackson raised two step-daughters as his own chldren. His daughter has said he was a true father to her. He legally adopted one and she is Jackson on her birth certificate. The older daughter wanted to keep her own last name and so her adoption was not a legal one but he raised both as his very own.
His daughter also informs me that the following obit missed telling that his wife Grace, was a survivor and that the listed brothers were actually half-brothers, having the same mother, but different fathers.
Obit of Frank B. Jackson rec'd from John J. Armstrong. It was featured in the Greenville Herald Banner, Hunt County, TX on Sun 6 Jun 1982:

Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery. He was born Oct 6, 1912, in Pleasant Plains (sic), Ohio to Elbert and Ethel Irons Jackson. He was married to Grace Gilliland June 28, 1953 in Alabama. He joined the faculty of East Texas State Univesity in 1958 and became the head of the history department in 1965. Dr. Jackson stepped down as department head in 1973 but continued teaching until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Commerce First United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the adminstrative board. Dr. Jackson was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are daughters, Martha C. Zawacki of Laurelville, Ohio and Myrna Brogdon of Los Fresnos, Texas; brothers, Harold Beckett of Westmanchester, Ohio, Clifford Beckett of Lebanon, Ohio and George and Craig Beckett, both or Oregonia, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
She was not listed as a survivor in her husband's 1982 obit but he daughter has written me that this was an oversight. Grace did survive him but is now buried beside him in Texas.

8809. Calvin Coolidge Jackson-2717
Contributed by Joe Jackson: My father, Calvin C., and his brothers were all born on the family farm near Level Station, Harlan Township. They attended school in Level Station. In 1929, or maybe 1930, they lost the farm due to mortgaging the farm to buy a second farm and not being able to make the payments because of the Great Depression. They moved to a farm near Kings Mills as tenant farmers. After high school, my father worked at the Peters Cartridge Factory for a short time and then was drafted into the Army. He was in the Air Corps and worked with radar in Canada. After WWII, Calvin attended Ohio State University for a while, then got work in construction. He met my mother, Violet E. Lang, and they were married in 1948. They lived in Lebanon, then built a house near Ridgeville, Clearcreek Township, in 1953. He built another house a few miles north in 1960 where he lived until he retired to Fort Meyers, Florida in 1991. He spent most of his life in Warren County, Ohio, and never lived in Dayton, although the house in northern Clearcreek Township had a Centerville address, sometimes shortened to Dayton. Calvin did construction work and his company, C. C. Jackson Construction Co., was based in Lebanon. He built many buildings in Warren and all the surrounding counties in southwestern Ohio. He should not be confused with another Calvin Jackson that had the Calvin Jackson Construction in Dayton.
Contributed by Joe Jackson, published in the Dayton Daily News: Calvin Coolidge Jackson, 83, passed away at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Florida on Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Calvin was born to Heber and Ada (Rider) Jackson on September 17, 1923. He lived for many years in Lebanon and Centerville, Ohio, moving to Ft. Myers in 1991. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter Jackson, wife Violet (Lang) Jackson & son-in-law Robert Schneider. He is survived by his children Joseph Jackson, Linda (Tom) Fugate, Jennifer Schneider and granddaughter Kimberly Schneider. Also surviving are his brothers MacClain (& Florence) Jackson and Herbert Jackson, numerous nieces and nephews, Glenn, Daryl and Curtis Jackson and many good friends. Calvin was a WWI Veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Ft. Myers is handling arrangements. No local services are planned. Contributions may be made in Calvin's honor to Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Florida.
