514. Obadiah Jackson-975
Obadiah was named for his grandfather, his mother's father.
When his daughter Rebecca was married to Jacob Seaman Jackson Jones in 1833, she was said to be "of Hempstead Harbor".
Obadiah was found in the 1840 Census for Flushing, Queens Co., New York.
He was found in the 1850 Census for North Hempstead, Queens Co., New York. He was living in a large household headed by William Hicks. William Hicks was married to Obadiah's daughter Ruth T. Jackson. Within the household were Obadiah 60, Mary E. 24, Sarah E. 16 and Ruth Jackson 65; all born in New York. I first thought Ruth Jackson 65 was Obadiah's sister but that Ruth had married Thomas Jones in 1802 and died in 1807. So I don't know who this Ruth was. Obadiah's wife, Sarah had died in 1848 and apparently Obadiah was living with his daughter Ruth and her family. Sarah E Hicks 16, is probably a wrong middle initial. In this large household, it is likely that whoever gave the enumerator the info was not Obadiah himself. By 1860, Obadiah was living in his own household again and his sons Townsend and Thomas were enumerated with him. His age was given as 73.It is interesting that one of Obadiah's grandsons, s/o Thomas, was named William Hicks Jackson.

Abraham Hicks 25 M B VirginiaThis following 1860 Census record is a puzzle to me. It is a strange listing of Servants first. Examining the image, it is possible these are servants of the prior household and that the household number was put on the wrong line. Also puzzling is the enumeration of Townsend and Thomas, assumed sons of Obadiah. But his son Townsend had married and moved to Jamestown, NY and is enumerated there. Thomas is also married with his own family. So who are these men, Thomas and Townsend? And none of the ages appear right.

Apparently this cemetery also goes by the name "Townsend Cemetery" in East Hills, Nassau Co., NY.
Tombstone transcription has Sarah's name to be Sarah T. but Hayden family papers have her name to be Sarah J. Boerum.
522. Phebe Jackson-1051
Page 180 of Mary Powell Bunker's book "Long Island Genealogies" says that Thomas Birdsall married Phebe Jackson, d/o Jacob Jackson but which Jacob this might be has not been determined.
Charity was under 18 years of age when her father wrote his 1772 Will. Same will is posted in his Notes.
She was also mentioned as being under 18 years of age in her grandfather Thomas Tredwell's 1779 Will which is posted in his Notes. The birth date used in this chart was calculated based on info in "The Record": age at death 76 yrs, 3 mos., 15 days.
The article in "the Record" says Samuel and Charity had 5 children.

526. Richard Jackson Seaman-2565
Richard Jackson, Sr. left a will dated Feb 28, 1770 and proved Mar 10, 1784. It names wife Jane, sons Richard and Jacob, grandsons Richard Jackson Seaman, son of his daughter Jane. and Micah Jackson, son of said son Richard, and granddaughter Charity, daughter of his daughter Mary.
In a codicil dated Feb 10, 1783 he names grandson Jacob Jackson Seaman, son of his daughter Jane.
Quote from website of Adienne Schoverling: Married: 18 Jan 1806 in Hempstead, Long Island, NY:
"Note: Hinshaw's Quaker record: Almy Seaman daughter of Benjamin and Jane; m 1806 William D. Jones" which differs from the record in Mary Thomas Seaman who has Almy as the daughter of Israel Seaman and Sarah Rowland."Since "The Jones Family of Long Island" by John H. Jones also has that Almy is the daughter of Israel Seaman and Sarah Rowland and that is the record I have used. I have not used Schoverling's record of data of birth (23 Nov 1768); I have used the dates in the Jones book instead.
1182. Townsend Jones-9043
Cited book, pg 157:
"Capt. Townsend Jones, son of William D.; b. March 16, 1818; d. Oct 21, 1884. He never married and for several years followed the sea. In 1862 he gave up his sea life and was later in the employ of the Atlantic Mutual Ins. Co. for twelve years as an inspector of captains, an office which required him to pass upon them relative to their qualification and standing. He was a member of the Society of Friends."
532. Major William (2) Jones-8962
From the Jones Family book, pg 129: "He was educated at the Academy in Oyster Bay, of which he later, in 1802, became one of its trustees. He was baptized in the New Dutch Church, N.Y. City, Elbert and Elizabeth Haring being his sponsors (his maternal grandparents); at an early age he was sent to live with Townsend Hewlett and his wife Martha, at Buckram, L.I.
Jones Family book gives date of marriage at 4 Oct 1790; but that may have been date of license. He was married by Rev. Andrew Fowler, of the Episcopal church, at Oyster Bay, and settled at South Oyster Bay, residing there until 1793, when they removed to Cold Spring Harbor, where, in 1806, he built a large house on the westerly side of the Harbor at the foot of a beach called "Major Jones' Beach."
The Jones book records eight children: Samuel, David, Cornelia, Susan, Elbert, Eleanor, Hannah and Daniel.
From the Jones book, pg 131: "Keziah was a woman of strong religious principles, and inherited all of the estimable qualitites of her mother and grandmother, the latter of whom was Hannah, dau. of Peter Underhill.
From "Gen. of Youngs Family" by D. K. Youngs: "Her strong religious principles and personal traits are strongly marked in her four daughters and their descendants, all of who are Church members and, with few exceptions, communicants. Of her daughters all were eminently qualified by inherent virtues and early training for wives and mothers; all of them attained this state."
Mary likely died as a result of childbirth as her child was born Nov 20 and died Nov 21 and Mary died 3 days later.
Ruth became Thomas Jones' second wife. On the St. George's church marriage register it said she was 'of Jerusalem".
Elizabeth became Thomas Jones' third wife.
The Jones Book gives her burial place as "Jones Burial Plot, West Neck, South Oyster Bay, New York". The Find-a-Grave site calls it "Jones Family Burial Ground", located in Massapequa, Nassau County, New York. I believe this reflects the changing names of some of these villages and hamlets and not actually a different location.
1196. Mary Jackson Jones-9069
The death year is conjecture as the Jones book left the year off.
From the Jones Family book, pg 163: "He was commissioned as Rear Admiral on 1 July 1870. He was a grandson of Hon. Melancton Smith, member of the first Provincial Congress of 1775, and his wife, Margaret, b Sept 21, 1749, dau of Richbell Mott, of Hempstead, L. I., and his wife, Deborah Dodge, son of Edmund Mott."
539. Thomas Jones-9003
He was a merchant in Albany, NY. He died at about 74 years of age. His wife survived him and lived with her two sisters and brother, near Albany.
1200. Henry Hornbeck Jr.-9216
Henry married a Phillips.
1201. Elizabeth Jones-9227
Elizabeth was under 18 years of age when she was named in her aunt, Elizabeth Jones' 1822 will.
Page 180 of Mary Powell Bunker's book "Long Island Genealogies" says that Thomas Birdsall married Phebe Jackson, d/o Jacob Jackson but which Jacob this might be has not been determined.
