494. Micah Jackson-915
Mary Powell Bunker's book has that Micah was born 1778. The calculated birth dates from his age at death on the Jackson Cemetery, Wantagh site is 22 Mar 1768. Since Micah is mentioned in his grandfather's 1770 will, he had to be born in 1768 and not 1778.
Richard Jackson, Sr. left a will dated Feb 28, 1770 and proved Mar 10, 1784. It names wife Jane, sons Richard and Jacob, grandsons Richard Jackson Seaman, son of his daughter Jane. and Micah Jackson, son of said son Richard, and granddaughter Charity, daughter of his daughter Mary.
In a codicil dated Feb 10, 1783 he names grandson Jacob Jackson Seaman, son of his daughter Jane.
Elizabeth is mentioned in her father's 1781 Will. See Will in her father's Notes.

495. Jane Jackson-917
Photo of her tombstone: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=27010209. This photo appears to have date of death as Feb 15, 1798, aged 27. Her birth date is calculated from her age at death; 27 years. But this 1798 years of death causes a conflict with the date her husband remarried to Martha Seaman. This needs further research!

496. Almy Jackson-918
Tombstone inscription from Find-a-Grave site:
SEAMAN, Almy, wife of H. 0. Seaman, died Jan. 2, 1832, age 58 yrs
There is no photo of this tombstone at Find-a-Grave.The transcription of this cemetery at 'Cemeteries of Old Wantagh' has her d/o/d as Jan. 2, 1852, age 58 yrs. This probably is a typo and should be 2 Jan 1832 as it is at the Find-a-Grave site. This 1832 year of death makes her more nearly the same age as her husband and is consistent with her first child being born in 1790 when she was about 16 years of age.
Mrs. Bunker in her book ''Long Island Genealogies'' states that Almy was born in 1773 and died in 1852 but gives no age at death. So either Mrs. Bunker's 1852 d/o/d for Almy is a typo or the transcription that says she was 58 years old at death is a typo.
Henry was a member of the Assembly from 1803 to 1808 and a Justice of the Peace several years.
They had no children per Ms. Bunker.

From ancestry.com:

Monday, May 20, 1844
Sunday, May 19: Alex. Warren Seaman 34y 4m Res of bro-in-law Coe S. Downing, 31 Hicks St. Remains taken to Jerusalem, Queens Co., NY for interment. The above newspaper notice not only gives us confirmation of his family relationship, but also gives us more accurate information than other published records. It contradicts the date of death given in Bunker's "Long Island Genealogies", pg 161 which says he died 19 May 1846. The photo of his tombstone at Find-a-Grave site is not real clear and can be read either May 19, 1814 or 1844 but the memorial itself indicates 1844. But the age at death given at Find-a-Grave does not agree with the newspaper article. It appears that both the date of death (19 May 1814) and the age at death (65yrs, 4mths) given in the cemetery transcription "Cemeteries of Old Wantagh" are both incorrect.
His birthdate is calculated using the date of death of 19 May 1844 and age at death is 34 yrs, 4 mths given in the newspaper article. Using these figures, an approximate date of birth is Jan 1810. Mrs. Bunker (pg 161) says he was born 11 Jan 1811.
1104. Mary Almy Seaman-2507
The date of death on both the transcriptions at "Cemeteries of Old Wantagh" and at Find-a-Grave appear to be in error saying she died in 1858 at 21 years of age. Mary Powell Bunker's book "Long Island Genealogies", pg 161 says that Mary Almy was born 7 Jan 1817 and died in 1838. When enlarging the photo of her tombstone at Find-a-Grave her date of death does look like May 28, 1838, not 1858.
The owner of the memorial at Find-a-Grave was contacted 28 Jan 2012 to help verify or refute my above conclusion. Later info at the Find-a-Grave site may be changed from the above info. Yes, it has been changed to 1838.
499. Mary Jackson-24057
Her father, Richard, is said to have settled in Dutchess County, NY but the Jones Book does not say when. The Van Benschoten Book says Richard arrived in Dutchess in 1774 but until the birth dates of the children are discovered, it is unknown whether they were born in Dutchess county or not. Mary's birth date confirms that she was born in Dutchess.
From the book "Concerning the Van Bunschoten or Van Benschoten Family in America", pg 132: "Grandmother was a most gentle and sweet-spirited woman - one of the Marys of the gospel."
Continuing on page 134: Her husband "laid away in 'Swago church-yard....Grandmother Mary lived thereafter with her daughter Elizabeth Doughty and died Jan 31, 1841. She also lay in Oswego ground; but after the removal of that church to La Grange, she and Henry were transferred to the new church-yard."
From the book "Concerning the Van Bunschoten or Van Benschoten Family in America", pg 132:
"What pre-eminently characterized Henry Van Bunschoten was his spiritual energy and life. Caught up by the enthusiasm and vigor of primitive Methodism he early forsook the staid faith of his fathers, the Dutch Reformed. Whether as cause or effect, I know not, but his marriage was into Methodism, for the Jacksons were great Methodists and their home a great preaching-place of that sect. He became what was syled a "local preacher" and was often called to attend sick and death-beds. His ministrations were truly in character; for he was a man of great sensitiveness; he lived the life of the spirit and exhorted and preached because of inward compulsion. His spiritual life it is said stood forth like a light in all that community." So much, much more is in the book.
1111. Townsend J. Van Benschoten-25007
"He died at the home of his neice Elizabeth Mills and lies in Phillipsburg Cemetery."
From pg 192, Van Benschoten book: "George Toffey Doughty.... son of William and Sarah (Van Wyck) Doughty. He was a farmer and general business man; lived at Green Haven, N. Y." Then the author lists 3 children of George and Elizabeth: Mary G., William Henry and Edward. More info is in this book.
1113. Mary Van Benschoten-25000
The author of the Hamlin rootsweb charts says the source for Mary was "Lineage Book National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Volume LXIV. 63001-64000. 1907. Washington, D.C.: Press of Judd & Detweiler, Inc., 1923."
Richard 'Alexander' Bryant-25001
The author of the Hamlin rootsweb charts says the source for Alexander was "Lineage Book National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Volume LXIV. 63001-64000. 1907. Washington, D.C.: Press of Judd & Detweiler, Inc., 1923."
From the Van Benschoten book, pg 193: "Richard Alexander Bryant was the son of Amos J. and Harriet (Hamlin) Bryant. He descends from a Thomas Bryan of Aylesbury, England, whose son Alexander Bryan, baptized there Sep. 29, 1602, early migrated to the Connecticut Plantation where he became a prominent merchant at Milford, "and with his son Richard stood in such high credit at Boston that his note of hand passed current as bank bills in the present day".
503. John J. Jackson-1952
His father, Richard, is said to have settled in Dutchess County, NY but the Jones Book does not say when. The Van Benschoten Book says Richard arrived in Dutchess in 1774 but until the birth dates of the children are discovered, it is unknown whether they were born in Dutchess county or not.
The Kissam Books adds the information for his middle initial and that he married a lady with the last name of Ingraham.
Pg 135, the Van Benschoten Book: "After his father's death in 1826 the homstead fell to John Jackson, my grandmother's brother. It continued to be, however, a great Methodist gathering-spot and a stopping place for ministers. At times the house was full of preachers: and Mrs. Phoebe Lee, the daughter of John, recalls that once when there was a conference at Po'keepsie as many as twenty ministers, all from eastward, put up with them over night.. . . John Jackson's continued to be a regular preaching place until the building of the new house in 1837."
So much more interesting stories are in this book: it is recommended reading!!

The personal Will of Pearcy Poole was copied and read from the LDS archive files for Wills for Chenango County, New York, and the names of his children are listed as stated in the Will, not necessarily in birth order. It is 'believed' that "Betscy" is probably the same as "Elizabeth", as I have Elizabeth (Poole) Stowell and her family noted in Federal Census living next to her two brothers. In the probate of the Will, 'Elizabeth" is named, but not a 'Betsy'. Only Bdates of James and Elizabeth are known at time of this writing (3-22-05), per Alfred M. Poole Family Bible; Jackson W. birthyear is based on his age noted the the Federal Census. Wife of Pearcy was only identified as "Mary" in his Will. Her maiden surname is still under research for confirmation. LDS sites show her as Mary Smith.
Pearcy Poole's Last Will and Testament was created December 5, 1836 in the Town and County of Westchester, New York and proofed the 2nd day of July, 1845 in the village of Norwich in the County of Chenango, state of New York, pages 472-475."
From Poole researcher: "Some sources from the LDS church have Mary's surname as 'SMITH'; however, William DeCoursey states her surname to be WATERS. Birth about 1784, New York. Her surname must yet be confirmed.

1120. Effa 'Effe' Poole-3429
From Poole researcher: "Effy is identified as 'Effy Weeks' in the probate of her father Pierce's Will. In the Fordham Dutch Reformed Church registers, records a marriage of William Weeks to Effe Pool[e] on November 1, 1820."
1121. James Poole-3421
From Poole researcher:
"Certain sources have guessed his father to be Pierce/Pearce Poole (who was a brother to Jackson and Townsend Poole). Confirmation of James' father as Pearcy Poole was confirmed in the Will of Pearcy Poole, naming his children and his wife's name as 'Mary' (no surname confirmed for her to date, but several sources note it to be "Smith"). Pearcy Poole's Last Will and Testament was created December 5, 1836 in the Town and County of Westchester, New York and proofed the 2nd day of July, 1845 in the village of Norwich in the County of Chenango, state of New York, pages 472-475.The Last Will and Testament of James Poole was proved August 2, 1881, in the town of Afton, County of Chenango, State of New York, Page 25, Volume W. Living children named in the will were: Mary Elizabeth, William Henry, Lewis J.(Jackson?), Ellen A. (McMasters), and Alfred Melvin Poole. Isaac Poole died Jan. 7, 1870-71, and James E. Poole died Oct. 1, 1852, per the data in the Alfred M. Poole family Bible.
Federal Census records dated 1840, 1850 and 1860 for Town of Bainbridge, Chenango County, State of New York are another primary source for identifying the location and family of James Poole, as well as Jackson Poole and other family members all living in the same area.
It is noted in Antony Maitland/Herbert A. Poole's genealogy research that Mary T. is the daughter of Jackson and she married a "James" Poole. James' father/mother were not identified in their report. That Mary is the daughter of Jackson Poole was confirmed in his Will."
James Poole and Mary T. Poole are 1st cousins. Their common ancestors are Solomon Poole-1087 and Lettitia Jackson-1084.
From Poole researcher:
"Mary is a cousin of James', which it seems was very common for cousins to marry in this era. Her father is Jackson Poole, as confirmed in his Will. Jackson was a son of Solomon Poole(1), and brother to Townsend Poole, and Pearcy (Pearce, Pierce) Poole, and their sisters Mary Poole (Corsa) and Elizabeth Poole (Archer). This data comes from extensive research by Antony Maitland family on the Poole family; our own family Bible of Alfred M. Poole, and other confirming research.Mary's middle initial was originally thought to be an "I", but in the Mills Co. Iowa marriage records of Alfred M. Poole, it is stated as a "T". The "I" probably a mis-reading of the script handwriting in our Bible and of the era. The "T" possibly stands for "Townsend" which was Letitia Jackson's mother's maiden name (ie, Mary Townsend).
The Fordham Dutch Reformed Church, NY, shows Mary as a daughter to Jackson Pool[e] and wife, born April 14, 1815 and baptism on October 1, 1815.
Mary's name and birthdate, etc. also shown in Alfred Poole family Bible."
1124. Hannah Poole-3424
From Poole researcher: "In the probate of her father's Will, Hanna is identified as 'Hanna Mapes'. Husband's first name unknown at this time."
1125. Letitia Poole-3425
From Poole researcher: "Letitia is identified as 'Letitia Searing' in the probate of her father's Will."
1126. Mary Poole-3426
From Poole researcher: "Mary is identified as 'Mary Weeks' in the probate of her father's Will. Her husband's first name is not known by me at this time. 7-10-05."
508. Jackson Poole-3411
From Poole researcher:
"It is noted in Antony Maitland/Herbert A. Poole's genealogy research that Mary T. is the daughter of Jackson and she married a "James" Poole - James' father/mother were not identified in their report. That Mary is the daughter of Jackson Poole was confirmed in Jackson Poole's Will.In April 2005, I (Poole researcher) confirmed that James Poole (married to Mary Poole) was a son of Pearcy Poole, by means of the Will of Pearcy Poole. James married his Uncle Jackson's daughter "Mary", thus his cousin.
The wife of Jackson Poole is Mary Eleanor (Corsa), who is a sister to Andrew Corsa*. Andrew served under George Washington in the Revolutionary War. See her lineage for notes.
Marriage of Jackson Poole to Mary Corsa is noted in Alfred M. Poole's family Bible, as well as many members of the Poole family and their spouses.
Birth and death dates of Jackson's children and wife are identified in Alfred M. Poole's family Bible.
There is still ongoing research to confirm that "Mary Corsa\r" was either the daughter of ANDREW CORSA and HELENA BUSSING; 'or' was she the SISTER of Andrew Corsa??? Many conflicting reports. At this time, Mary Corsa is noted as the SISTER to Andrew, pending confirming data otherwise."
Jane Kimble's note: Jackson's children were born in Morrisania so that must have been his place of residence and he may have died there.
Quote from Poole researcher:
"Alfred Poole Family Bible states Mary Corsa(r) and Jackson Poole were husband and wife, married November 12, 1808. Her birthdate and death are also noted in the Family Bible, as well as the children they had.A question arises based on conflicting information from William DeCoursey published data seen on the LDS Pedigree Resource Files, Disc.18, accessed 6-14-05. Under issue for Isaac Corsa/Mary Gibb Corsa, he identifies 'Mary Corsa' as their daughter and she is married to Jackson Poole. He has no birth dates for Mary. In a second Decoursey report regarding the Andrew Corsa marriage to Hanna Bussing (as a 1st marriage), he states issue were a Mary Corsa and an Isaac Corsa. The birthdate given for Mary is matching to that seen in the Alfred Poole Family Bible. How can these discrepencies be rectified and proven? I have emailed Mr. DeCoursey with these questions (5-05). No reply as of this time (6-15-05). For now, I will leave 'Mary Corsa' as the sister of Andrew Corsa, not his daughter.
Mary is the sister* to Andrew Corsa, identified below. A Brother of Jackson Poole, named 'Solomon'(2) (father Solomon(1)), married Deborah Corsa, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Poole. (List of Andrew and Mary Poole Corsa issue was stated in the Westchester County Historical Society's publication, "Westchester Historian", Summer 1996. Vol. 72 Iss. 3)
Andrew CORSA, son of Isaac and Mary (GIBB) CORSA, was born, 24 Jan 1762, d. 21 Nov 1852. He married first, 1792, to Mary POOLE, and he married second to Helena BUSSING. His obituary in 1852 states "both his father and grandfather were natives of the same place as himself. The latter was born in 1692 about the time of Gov. Fletcher's arrival in the colony, after whom he was named Benjamin Fletcher CORSZEN." See William S. Hadaway, McDONALD PAPERS, pt.II (1927), p.73. Andrew Corsa grew up on a farm where Fordham University stands today. Although his father was a Tory during the American Revolution, when this 19 year-old was asked by George Washington and the Comte de Rochambeau to guide them and 5,000 American and French troops to Morrisania to survey British fortifications on Manhattan, he readily agreed. On July 20, 1781, he led them on the Grand Reconnaissance, sometimes dodging cannonballs, and led them back. Corsa Avenue is named after his family.
http://bronxcountyclerksoffice.com/en/history/chronology.htm (Accessed 5-15-05)The name "Corsa" is spelled multiple ways in records: Corsa, Corsar, Corszen, Coursa, DeCoursey, etc. Certain Versions used during war time or other locations became "Reeser", "Racer", to Anglicize their name. Because of the hostilities of the Indians and the French leading up to the colonial wars of 1753-1763, it probably was not advisable in the Colonies to have a French sounding name; hence Teunis CORSI (Dennis DeCOURSEY) often used the anglicized version of his name "REESER". Note that the French "COURSIER" pronounced "Coursay" is translated to "RACER" in English; also "STAM" in Dutch as it was used by some of the early deCOURCY's in Holland and New Amsterdam. Several RACER descendants in Ohio, WV, and elsewhere are aware of their DeCOURSEY heritage. See GRACE RACER GENEALOGY, Campus Maritus Library, Marietta, Ohio; Marrietta Chapter DAR, EARLY BIBLE RECORDS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO (Marietta, Ohio, 1940), p.115.

From Poole researcher:

1133. Samuel Poole-3436
From Poole researcher:
"Samuel J. Poole is listed in the Alfred Poole Family Bible records as the son of Jackson and Mary (Corsar) Poole.
The Fordham Dutch Reformed Church, NY Register shows Samuel Jackson, son of Jackson Pool[e} and wife Mary Corsa was born September 22, 1830 and baptised September 11, 1831. His sponsor was James Corsa."
509. Mary Poole-3412
From Poole researcher:
"Mary Poole married Andrew Corsa, a recognized Revolutionary War participant. See notes under Andrew Corsa. At the time of this writing (June 2005) there is still confusion as to 'which sequence' of wife Mary Poole was to Andrew. She is noted to have 10 issue by Andrew.
Research by William DeCoursey (http://www.angelfire.com/mn/itsabouttime) states his first wife's (Helena Bussing) death was Dec. 27, 1787. and Andrew's marriage to Mary Poole as being Oct. 12, 1792. Their first child being born in 1793 and onward. Other published data also by Mr. DeCoursey states 'Mary Poole' as being Andrew Corsa's first wife. If, in fact, Helena Bussing is proven to have died in 1787, and record of two children for her and Andrew are proven, then Mary Poole would logically be wife number two based on the ages of their children, etc.
Other recognized sources (Westchester Historical Society) have stated Mary was Andrew's first wife and Helena Bussing his second wife. Research underway to try to clear up the discrepencies."
From Poole researcher:
"Andrew CORSA, son of Isaac and Mary (GIBB) CORSA, was born, 24 Jan 1762, d. 21 Nov 1852. He married first, 1792, to Mary POOLE, and he married second to Helena BUSSING. French's HISTORY OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY (1927), v.5; James Riker, REVISED HISTORY OF HARLEM (1904), p.488.General HEATH, in Jan 1777, organized a militia group in Westchester county. "The English depended upon Tories who had joined them, while the Americans had a regular body of guides many of whom became deservedly famous, not only for their knowledge of the land, but for their skill and daring in the fights which occurred when the rival parties met. The services of these 'Westchester Guides' were so important that their names deserve to be recorded. They were Abraham and Michael DYCKMAN of Kingbridge, Isaac and Cornelius OAKLEY of Westchester; the three brothers John, Abraham and Isaac ODELL of Greenburgh; Isaac or 'UK' ODELL and Martin POST of Yonkers; the brothers John and Peter PYNE from the country along the Croton; Samuel YOUNGS and John McCHAIN of the Manor of Philipsburgh; David HUNT of Westchester; William GREENE of Lower Yonkers and William N. DYCKMAN. To these names may be added Andrew CORSA who on account of his youth only acted on two or three important occasions during the later years of the war." Note that some of the close relatives of the CORSA and VERMILYEA family served in this Militia. Isaac ODELL had married Hannah VERMILYEA, a half-sister of Thuenis CORSA (Dennis DeCOURSEY). Two other half-siblings had married DYCKMANs. Andrew CORSA was a cousin, the son of Isaac CORSA and Mary GIBB. Otto Huffland, WESTCHESTER COUNTY DURING THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (1926), p.207-208.
