4119. Tristam Hampton Burch-14357

Story handed down to descendant, Phil Rowe:
"As for Joseph's son, Tristram (my great great grandfather), I had always heard that he was General' Lee's personal aid, and upon looking up their calvary regiment on wikipedia, I learned how. In 1864 the 4th Regiment SC Calvary was transfered to Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. I'm told he ran dispatches and did other duties and at one point he walked from Cheraw, SC to Charleston to gather horses, having to sleep on someone doorstep. After the war he and his wife had my great grandpa Tristram Hampton Burch who married Hattie Rollings Burch."

It should be noted that other descendants have challenged this story as folklore.
