From Dan Buchanan's notes, On May 24, 1859, when the family arrived at Ingoldsby Narrows, Willet John was fifteen, his brother Benjamin Franklin twenty, Isaac thirteen, Harriet ten, Emerson eight, Sarah six and Charles two. The settlement which sprang up on both sides of the primitive bridge was known as Austin Narrows.

From Dan Buchanan's notes, On May 24, 1859, when the family arrived at Ingoldsby Narrows, Willet John was fifteen, his brother Benjamin Franklin twenty, Isaac thirteen, Harriet ten, Emerson eight, Sarah six and Charles two. The settlement which sprang up on both sides of the primitive bridge was known as Austin Narrows. One of the tradesmen moving to Haliburton in 1871 was Willet John Austin, who was no stranger to the area. IN 1857-8, two of his uncles, bachelors James and Richard Benjamin Austin and his parents, Charles Starbuck Austin and Elizabeth Leck, pushed ahead into yet unsurveyed townships and claimed land at Robertson Settlement (Allsaw). Willet's occupations during his life included trapper, storekeeper, bailiff and carpenter.
